Rising costs and unpredictable U.S. tariffs have made things tough across the board for game companies, and sadly, some have had to shut down. Wise Wizard Games has been hit hard too. But we’re not giving up.
We’re still committed to publishing awesome games, fulfilling our crowdfunding campaigns, and supporting our partners and community around the world. To do that, we’ve had to make some really tough decisions.
Team Restructure
To stay sustainable long-term, we’re going through a difficult internal reorganization. We’ve had to make some heartbreaking staffing cuts, and we want to give a huge thank you to our incredible team, past and present, who’ve helped bring our games to life.
Some of our team members will continue on as contractors, and our amazing digital team is staying on to keep supporting and developing our apps.
Positive Momentum
We know this is hard news, but there are still a lot of good things happening that we’re really proud of:
- Our evergreen games like Star Realms and Hero Realms continue to be loved by fans around the world.
- The new Star Realms 10th Anniversary Edition is getting great feedback, people are especially excited that sleeved cards fit perfectly in the new box.
- Our digital apps are thriving and not impacted by tariffs. The Star Realms and Hero Realms apps continue to grow. The Draconis 8 app is launching soon on Steam Early Access, and Caution Signs and Sherlock Solitaire are now available on mobile.
- Our small box game strategy is helping us weather changes in costs and tariffs. At Essen Spiel, players were loving Seeker Chronicles, Elemystic, and Cat Says Moo.
- Our games are translated and published in many languages through partnerships with international publishers, and we’re still adding more localization partners to bring even more games to more players.
- Our Wacky Wizard Games line has brought a lot of smiles. The hit party game, Caution Signs, and our cat game, Pack the Essentials, are both being reprinted.
- We’re starting to distribute games originally published outside the U.S. Our newest game, Locus, is off to a great start and already won two Toy of the Year awards in Europe.
- Sales are up at conventions like Origins, Gen Con, and Essen Spiel.
- We’ve made tons of progress on art, game design, and development for multiple upcoming games, including many that are part of our crowdfunding campaigns.
